Abduction and Dialogical Proof in Argumentation and Logic Programming

چکیده
We develop a model of abduction in abstract argumentation, where changes to an argumentation framework act as hypotheses to explain the support of an observation. We present dialogical proof theories for the main decision problems (i.e., finding hypotheses that explain skeptical/credulous support) and we show that our model can be instantiated on the basis of abductive logic programs.

Dung’s theory of abstract argumentation is a widely used formalism in the eld of arti cial intelligence. It is used to model various types of reasoning, by representing con icting or defeasible information using an argumentation framework, i.e., a set of arguments and an attack relation. Di erent so called semantics have been proposed in the literature to determine, given an argumentation frame...
متن کاملAn Abductive Semantics for Disjunctive Logic Programs and Its Proof Procedure
While it is well-known how normal logic programs may be viewed as a form of abduction and argumentation, the problem of how disjunctive programs may be used for abductive reasoning is rarely discussed. In this paper we propose an abductive semantics for disjunctive logic programs with default negation and show that Eshghi and Kowal-ski's abductive proof procedure for normal programs can be adop...
متن کاملArgumentation-based abduction in disjunctive logic programming
In this paper we propose an argumentation-based semantic framework , called DAS, for disjunctive logic programming. The basic idea is to translate a disjunctive logic program into an argumentation-theoretic framework. One unique feature of our proposed framework is to consider the disjunctions of negative literals as possible assumptions so as to represent incomplete information. In our framewo...
متن کاملModeling and verifying business processes and choreographies through the abductive proof procedure SCIFF and its extensions
In this article we survey our recent research activity concerning the use of logic programming, and in particular of abduction, for interaction specification and verification in several domains. We outline relevant results in the areas of multi-agent systems, argumentation, web services choreographies and business processes.
متن کاملAbduction in Argumentation Frameworks and Its Use in Debate Games
This paper studies an abduction problem in formal argumentation frameworks. Given an argument, an agent verifies whether the argument is justified or not in its argumentation framework. If the argument is not justified, the agent seeks conditions to explain the argument in its argumentation framework. We formulate such abductive reasoning in argumentation semantics and provide its computation i...
